Europe Dubs the Ascendant Ford Model N as the 'Yankee Peril'

FoMoCo unabashedly acknowledges its global reach by directly embracing the ‘Yankee Peril’ moniker thrust upon the company by its European rivals … the Model N’s low price and relative reliability opens markets once thought hopelessly closed to American automobile products.

Ford advert, circa May 1907.

Bitterly stung by the heavy sniping issued by rival manufacturers embarrassed by Henry Ford’s defiance of the Selden patent legacy, FoMoCo continues its counter advert blitz and introduces the customer testimonial on the behalf of its automobiles. Henry Ford, leery of advertising merely for ‘hucksterim’s’ sake, instead makes use of print adverts to wage his fierce campaign against the Selden presumption.

1904 Ford Advert: The ‘Irrepressible’ Model A

The Ford Model B Stands Tall ... Or Spins a Tall Tale?

The Ford Model A Stands Tall ... Or Spins a Tall Tale?

A 1904 Ford pitch for its flat-two Model A leaves modern day readers scratching their heads, given our belated (hind)sight into the myriad of mechanical woes that beset the grossly underpowered machine.

Are we truly to believe that the leak plagued and ill cooled Model A Tonneau could truly carry four passengers and luggage across the then ‘western United States’ (across the Ohio Valley) without a crew of Ford mechanics to nurse the auto along the way? Although the ad pitch suggests otherwise, other testimony regarding the fledgling Model A and its notorious ails easily counter such a notion. In fact, many Ford customers complained that the 10 horsepower Model A could not carry even two passengers up a steep hill.

Was Ford pressing the advocacy envelope a bit too much back in 1904? Most Blue Oval experts assert that Ford cars did not possess the durability required for such a journey until the emergence of its well constructed Model N Runabout. If the tale to the left is indeed accurate, then the Model A truly deserves our belated apologies.

Ford Eagerly Adopts 'The Universal Car' as its Tag Line in 1913.

Ford hucks its ever ascendant Model T with a new look in its branding … the winged pyramid declaring the Lizzie as ‘The Universal Car’.

Despite the fresh look the icon offers the print pages, not a few detractors accuse Ford of embracing the neo-mysticism current gaining strength among reactionaries in the USA by use of such advert iconography. Ford, to its credit, never responds to such claims.
